FAQs:
How many installs are students allowed with a single purchase?
Two installs are allowed per purchase.
Can the new Office Suite be installed without a previous version of Microsoft Office?
You do not need a prior edition of Office in order to install the new Microsoft Office suite.
At what point during enrollment can a new student access the KU Software Web Store?
New students can take advantage of this benefit as soon as they can log on the KU Software Web Store. Access to the Web Store is based upon a student's enrollment status. Access to the Web Store may take up to a week after enrollment.
How do I install Office 2013 if I have a previous version of office on my computer?
If you currently have a previous version of Office on your home computer, you must uninstall Office and reboot your computer before installing your new version.
Can I just purchase the backup media from the KU Web Store without purchasing the download?
The Microsoft Office download is free for students, but they must add it to their cart in order to purchase the backup DVD. Faculty and staff must purchase the download if they want to purchase the backup DVD.
Will I get free upgrades when new versions come out?
No. New versions of Office will be offered through the KU Web Store when they are available, but you will need to go through the same process of purchasing the new version.
If I purchased the download and then I need another download, do I have to purchase the software again?
The program allows only one installation with the purchase of the download product. But, if you purchase the backup DVD, you can install the software a second time. The backup DVD costs $13.95.
How do I re-download software or buy backup DVD after I have already purchased?
The product key and download link are available in your order confirmation email. You can purchase a backup DVD for $13.95 in the KU Web Store. You also have the option of purchasing an Extended Access Guarantee.
What is an Extended Access Guarantee?
The Extended Access Guarantee option costs $4.95 and offers you protection for your download(s) and/or key(s), allowing you to access them any time from one to 24 months from the day you place your order. This option allows you to have access to the download link and key, however, it does not mean you will be able to download and install the software an unlimited number of times using the same key.
Are student GTAs and GRAs eligible for access to Office through HUP?
Yes. As an employee, GTAs and GRAs are eligible. However, the terms of use require employees to remove the software at the end of employment, so GTAs and GRAs would not be allowed to keep their software when their appointment ends. As students, GRAs and GTAs have access to free Office through the KU Web Store so that is a better and easier solution.
Can I continue using the software if I leave the University of Kansas?
Students receive a perpetual license to use the Microsoft Office version they download from the KU Web Store. Faculty and staff use, however, is contingent on employment, and the Microsoft Office you purchase under this agreement must be removed if you are no longer employed by KU. In addition, students, faculty and staff should remove academic licensed software before selling or giving away an old computer.
