Project Updates

Below is a list of the major projects being worked on by KU Information Technology. Projects have been selected because they are either of interest to the campus or will have a significant impact on the university community. This list represents only a portion of approximately 200 total active projects.

ProjectPlanned Completion (Semester)

Distributed Antenna System (DAS) Phase II

This project will enhance cellular coverage on campus by constructing a Distributed Antenna System (DAS).

Latest Status: Implementation. As of April 09, 2014, contractors are in the process of verification of the iDAS system in Allen Fieldhouse, to complete April 30. Validation for oDAS is scheduled to complete May 31. Contractors are working with KU to determine locations for antennas on West Campus. Phase Two, which focuses on Memorial Stadium, began planning on March 31, 2014, which overlaps with the completion of Phase One, which is scheduled to complete July 31. The goal is to have Memorial Stadium on-air for validation September 12.

Phase II Ubiquitous Wireless

This project will provide for ubiquitous wireless coverage to the following buildings: Wescoe Hall, Anschutz Library,Watson Library, Stauffer-Flint Hall, Marvin Hall, Marvin Studios, Smith Hall, Twente Hall, Kansas Memorial Union, Burge Union, Dyche Hall, Military Science, Robinson Health and PE, Lippincott Hall, Spencer Research Library, Spooner Hall, Nunemaker Center, Hall Center, and the Wesley Foundation Building. Project will also expand the outdoor wireless mesh to areas between Jayhawk Boulevard and Sunnyside road.

Latest Status: Implementation. As of March 1, 2014, work continues on the Wireless expansion and is expected to be completed by April 2014.

Recruitment Project

This project was initiated to replace the TAM system currently being used in the recruitment of faculty, staff and students.

Latest Status: Implementation. As of April 04, 2014, phase 2 of this project is live. The project team will remain engaged until the HRIS Integrations deploy as they are completed after go-live.

Emergency Notification System

This project was established to replace or update the mass notification solution for the University of Kansas to respond to both emergency and day-to-day communications.

Latest Status: Planning. As of April 4, 2014, requirement sessions and development work are underway for the updated emergency notification system configuration.

BA One Stop Shop Portal

Latest Status: Implementation. As of April 04, 2014, a list of future features has been prioritized by Leadership. The first priorities of FY14 were deployed on March 20, 2014 (Campus Message & New Look & Feel). The remaining priorities are scheduled to complete as we move towards the close of FY14.

Maximo Reset

Latest Status: Planning. As of April 10, 2014, CFI and KU have discussed the details of the assessment document CFI created. This document outlines their recommendations for Maximo and business process development.

Academic Catalog

This project was established to purchase and implement a software solution that will allow us to increase efficiencies in managing the academic catalog.

Latest Status: Complete. As of April 01, 2014, the new academic catalog is now live. This project has been moved to warranty.

Improve software distribution (Kivuto)

The main focus of this project is to replace the current manual software distribution process with a hosted online distribution web store.

Latest Status: Warranty. As of March 17, 2014, the KU Software Web Store (kusoftware.onthehub.com) is available for all campus users.

International Case Management Software Upgrade

This project for International Student Services (ISS) will implement expanded functionality of a currently-owned vendor product and brand it for KU.

Latest Status: Warranty. As of March 7, 2014, we have moved to the upgraded service to production.

KU Edwards Campus Fiber to JCCC

This project provides a redundant connection to KanREN for the Edwards campus. KanREN has equipment at JCCC that KU Edwards can connect to accomplishing a new circuit to feed campus.

Latest Status: Warranty. As of April 4, 2014 the connection to Edwards Campus is in production.
