Overview

KU IT provides departments and campus groups with the following two options for high-performance, easily accessible file storage and sharing services:


Group File Storage via KU's Central File Storage Service

KU’s Central File Storage Service is designed to address traditional and large file storage needs where document management is not required. Group data storage via KU Central File Storage is made available in increments of 50 GB and is accessible within the KU network or remotely via the KU Anywhere Virtual Private Network (VPN) service. Files cannot be shared with colleagues outside of specified KU group.

Non-Approved Uses of the KU Central File Storage Service

Data classified as "Level 1 - Confidential Information" by the KU Data Classification & Handling Policy, including information protected by HIPPA (health info), FERPA (student records), GLB (financials) and PCI (e-commerce), should not be stored on KU group file storage or personal file storage. For a complete list of data classified as "Level 1" please see the KU Data Classification & Handling Policy: Appendix 1. Please contact your Technology Support Staff regarding the special permissions and processes required to store Level 1 data.

Hawk Drive

Hawk Drive is a web-based file storage system available to KU students, faculty and staff. It allows users to upload, store, access, retrieve, and share files via the Internet using a web browser. Files can be shared with colleagues outside of campus. Hawk Drive provides 1 GB of storage space per account.

Non-Approved Uses of Group File Storage
