KU Data Sharing & Storage Services

KU Information Technology provides several options for campus users needing storage resources:

Personal and group storage is available to students, faculty and staff who need storage for files, documents, and data sets. There are two options: Hawk Drive and Central File Storage (see chart below)

Research File Storage is available to researchers and departments for research projects, research groups and service labs. The service is designed to address both primary and secondary storage needs for research data (see chart below)

Individual User

Individual User - you are the primary person to access the data with occasional/adhoc sharing. Individual User - the only person that needs access to the data is you.

1GB of document management space for KU students, faculty and staff

10GB of storage for KU Faculty and staff available as traditional Windows-based file storage (e.g. U: drive).
Web-based access Off-Campus access via KUAnywhere

Documents can be shared with other KU users and colleagues outside of KU.

You control access rights to your individual data.

Ideal for storing data that doesn't need to be accessible to anyone other than the author/creator such as employee documents, etc.

Group

Group - multiple people from a group or department need access to data/files. Group - multiple people from a group or department need access to data/files.
HawkDrive document management space for groups is available to departments on campus by special request. Central File Storage for groups is available for any Technical Liaison-designated group.
Documents can be shared outside of campus with colleagues at other locations. Individuals from various departments can form a "group" and share storage space via traditional drive mappings.
Users can assign permissions to folders and files as needed. Rights/permissions for the storage group are managed by a department's Technical Liaison.
Users can collaborate and view team members' changes. Ideal for departmental data files.

Research File Storage

Research Projects, Researchers Service Labs

Large economical storage designed to house primary instance of research data used by researchers, research projects, or grants. Large economical storage designed to hold a secondary (backup) copy of data that is housed on another primary storage system
