What is SPSS?
SPSS is modular, tightly integrated, full-featured statistics software for the analytical process, including planning, data collecting, data access, data management and preparation, analysis, reporting and deployment. How is SPSS licensed at KU?
KU Information Technology maintains an enterprise license for SPSS that is paid for via a consortium of 11 KU SPSS stakeholder departments. SPSS licenses are valid from September 1 through August 31 of the following year.
How do I purchase SPSS?
SPSS products are available to all faculty and staff for use on University-owned computers at no additional cost. Please contact your department's technical support staff or KU Information Technology for installation. Each SPSS installation requires the following information be kept on file to ensure our licensing compliance:
- Machine information (name, ID, or IP)
- Type of machine (KU-owned only)
- Name, title and department of person using the license
- Software licensed (Windows, Macintosh, individual add-on)
This information should be tracked in a spreadsheet for auditing.
What does SPSS cost?
SPSS products are now available to all faculty, staff and University-owned computers at no additional cost. Currently all costs for SPSS products at KU are covered by the following units:

- School of Business
- Social Welfare
- Edwards Campus

How do students get SPSS?
Student employees (GTAs, GRAs, etc.) All employees are covered under the licensing agreement and have the same rights as other faculty and staff. Please contact your technical support staff.

How do I learn how to use SPSS?
Workshops are available through Instructional Technology. A list of workshops is available online. Go to the Filter workshop list menu on the right side of the screen, select Data Analysis and Statistics from the –by category– listing, then click the Filter button.
