Overview

Microsoft SharePoint is a collaboration and communication platform for your group, team or department.

SharePoint includes the following tools and capabilities:

  • Create, upload, store and share files online
  • Access to documents anywhere you have an internet connection
  • Sync files to your local computer
  • Co-authoring of documents
  • Manage personal and team workflows, forms and lists
  • OneNote integration
  • Shared online calendar

Microsoft cloud platforms are fully compliant with all regulatory frameworks, but if you are going to store Critical data (formerly Level 1/Confidential) in your Teams site, you need to speak with your departmental IT support staff first.

KU Collaboration Tools

KU IT offers three platforms for academic and work collaboration:

  • Sharepoint is best for workflows to improve business process and for file sharing that needs more granular sharing permissions.
  • MS Teams is best for department work teams, student groups, class discussions/study groups and cross-campus or multidisciplinary work groups.
  • Blackboard is best for course creation and content delivery, assignments and grades. (Blackboard is KU's official Learning Management system.)
