KU is expanding Duo to all students

Multifactor authentication helps protect KU systems and personal information.

KU will expand Duo multifactor authentication to all students this semester to boost security of campus systems and data. We introduced Duo multifactor authentication (MFA) for KU employees in 2019.

We are planning a thoughtful and careful approach to ensure we can provide focused customer support to KU students; however, as with all change, the Duo roll out to students will bring a period of adjustment. We encourage instructors to be patient as students navigate this transition and to encourage students to allow for extra time when navigating the new login process, particularly for time-sensitive situations such as online exams and assignments.

Beginning on Jan. 29 and continuing throughout the semester, we will activate Duo for groups of students each day. Our process is based on the successful enrollment process Kansas State University used with their students last year. K-State project leaders said their process went extremely smoothly with only minor issues.

While the expansion of Duo multifactor authentication to all students has been planned since early 2023, an increase in compromised student accounts last fall reinforced the need for this critical security measure.
