KITO Reporting

The State of Kansas requires all IT projects to be reported through the Kansas Information Technology Office (KITO). This includes any effort or activity that meets the state's definition of an IT Project, "an information technology effort by a state agency of defined and limited duration that implements, effects a change in or presents a risk to processes.”

KU Information Technology coordinates the submission of KITO paperwork for all IT projects at KU. The initial submission made via the KITO Approval and Reporting System (KARS) includes information about the effort, as well as a two-step risk assessment. The initial submission is required before procurement can take place. If the project is deemed high risk it may require oversight, and additional information will be required prior to implementation and throughout the project process.

The KITO reporting and review process applies to all departments and units at the University of Kansas, and is not specific to KU IT. This is mandatory reporting, based on State of Kansas government statutes.

For more information on what is required for KITO submission, please see the KITO website, or contact KU IT for assistance at itcsc@ku.edu.
