Excel 2013 – Essentials
A basic-level, self-paced, online Excel course available to all students, faculty and staff via Blackboard at no cost
KU IT developed this online course as a resource to help students, faculty and staff learn the essential functions of Excel. The course covers the competencies Microsoft outlines for their first-tier Microsoft Office Specialist certification in Excel. It includes videos, text-based instruction, and practice activities. The coursework is optional, there is no fee or textbook for the course, and students will not be graded. You can self-enroll by visiting this link, http://selfenroll.ku.edu/NAC000-114. From there, you'll need to sign in with your KU Online ID and password.
myCommunity – Student Video Series
A series of six videos demonstrating how to use Office 365, OneDrive for Business, and OneNote. Students are geared toward students but are relevant for all campus audiences.
Built on the SharePoint Online platform, myCommunity is a place where KU students, faculty and staff can come together to collaborate, share ideas and advance knowledge. myCommunity is also where you can access your one terabyte of free cloud storage via OneDrive for Business and access online versions and downloads for home use of Microsoft Office products through Office 365. A self-paced, online course available to all students, faculty and staff via myCommunity at no cost
Built on the SharePoint Online platform, myCommunity is a place where KU students, faculty and staff can come together to collaborate, share ideas and advance knowledge. It does this through role-based sites. This course covers a service and framework overview, creating lists, setting up columns and views, adding information to a list, creating and managing document libraries, overview of advanced features with links out to Microsoft pages for more info, creating pages, adding links to the Quick Launch, adding web parts to pages, and deleting sites that are no longer used. An online Blackboad tutorial for instructors available to instructors via Blackboard at no cost.
This workshop provides a hands-on introduction to the Blackboard Learn interface and organization features. You will focus on navigation, the course style, and the process of planning, adding, and organizing links on the course menu. Along the way, you will examine different strategies for organizing the course menu, which is the students’ access point to tools and content. This course was designed to provide the most common ways that instructor’s utilize the Blackboard system.
Follow the steps listed below to self enroll into the Virtual Blackboard 101 workshop:
- Log into Blackboard (courseware.ku.edu)
- On the My Blackboard page find the Course Search Module
- Enter Virtual Blackboard 101
- Select Go
- Hover over the Course ID NAC-Bb017 and select the edit button
- Select Enroll
- Select Submit
The course should now appear in the My Courses module where you can select it.

KU's Website Content Management System (CMS)
An online website dedicated to instructions on KU's website content management system (CMS) that uses drupal
KU's website content management system, called the CMS, is built using drupal. KU IT and Marketing Communications have created an online collection of how-to videos and documentation at cms.ku.edu. There, you can find links to requesting new sites (accounts), links to requesting approval for your site, lists of site requirements, and more.
Using Skype for Business

KU IT Technology Instruction has created an online collection of how-to videos and documentation at http://technology.ku.edu/using-skype-for-business. This covers Skype for Business 2015 for basic use, online meetings, and the new phone service. Additionally, we have directions for Lync 2011 for Mac (basics, meetings, and phone), as well as Skype for Business mobile app, Outlook Web App, and more. We will continue to update this website as new interfaces, features, and questions emerge with the Skype for Business Phone Service roll out.

Limits on Desk-side Coaching Appointments
This applies to desk-side coaching that is not related to Educational Technology.
KU IT Training strives to meet the needs of as many faculty and staff as possible. To make the most of our resources, please note that if you have already received several desk-side coaching sessions in a calendar year and need additional assistance, we may refer you to other training resources, including workshops and online materials, and/or ask for your patience in scheduling further one-on-one sessions. A desk-side coaching appointment is anytime we meet with you one-on-one. To make the most out of desk-side coaching appointments, we ask that you supply us with as much information as possible about your goals for the session and, if possible, send us any files that are related to your request so that we can prepare for our meeting.
If you have colleagues who are interested in learning the same type of information, we can coordinate a small workshop. Please remember that your technology support staff can be a great resource when trying to troubleshoot issues with your computer or software.
KU departments can request customized training for their faculty and staff. Sessions might range from a one-time workshop to a multi-session training series. This training can take place at the department’s office space, or a training lab can be reserved for the session.
Instructors can request KU IT trainers to lead one-time or multi-session class training workshops on specific software which is required knowledge for that class or a specific assignment.
